On deck 9, at the very front of the ship, accessed through either the spa or the fitness center, there is a solarium with a hydrotherapy pool. Originally available only to those who would fork out $29 for the privilege, the hydro-pool is now available free of charge. Whereas the perfectly lovely hot tubs that flank the pool offer the usual bubble-pffft-bubble of warmth, the hydrotherapy pool provides a virtual tsunami of hot saltwater, guaranteed to wash away your aches and pains. Most folks aren't aware of this quiet place, it's never crowded and rarely has more than two guests resting at any given time, so let's just keep it our little secret.
The Oceania Spa is one of the most beautiful spaces afloat. Its serene marble interior just oozes tranquil elegance. Managed by Harding Brothers, the company that provides spa services to most European cruiselines, it was a pleasant change to receive spa treatments without the usual hard-sell tactics.
Spa treatments seemed expensive to me, but there were specials throughout the cruise that made the prices quite reasonable. The specials are listed in the nightly newspaper for the next day. Port days offer the best deals; sea days are very busy so if you want treatments on sea days, book very early.
The fitness center located next to the spa is very well-equipped with both cardio and weight equipment. Instructors are available for yoga, pilates, and other exercise regimes at an hourly charge. Some classes are offered for free, and there is a jogging track on deck 10.
A wide range of shore excursions are offered in every port. I thought that destination information was lacking for those not taking part in the organized excursions, but the department is working at getting more maps and information from the tourist offices at each destination, to be available on arrival at the ports. This will be greatly appreciated by those, like me, who more often than not choose independent excursions but still want (and need) information and guidance.
